REMEMBER – One of the most important things to keep in mind about interior house painting is that preparation is just as important as the painting itself. Most residential painting contractors will tell you the same thing – “the preparation is the most important part” and it’s this critical part that homeowners don’t really think about that will make the difference between a quality interior house painting job and a quick repaint.

Why paint a single room in your house?

Sometimes we aren’t looking to paint multiple rooms or the entire interior; we want to make only one room feel like new. Painting a single room allows us to freshen it up, possibly even totally repurpose the room for a home office, family room, or even a new addition to the family! The problem is finding a quality local painter who will complete your small (but very important!) project for you, AND can do it in a timely manner – due to prior commitments for their larger jobs.  So let us take a look at DIY painting a room, and share some professional tips on how to paint your new office, teen’s room, or possibly a nursery.

Here are the steps to painting a single room in your home

Step 1.  Start with your ceiling so you dont have to worry about dropping paint on to the walls or trims.

Step 2.  Move on to the walls, once the ceiling is dry, and make sure to apply at least two coats.

Step 3. Once the wall is dry, tape off the wall portions above your baseboards and then paint the trims. Ideally, you will paint baseboards, windows, and door frames to ensure an even color throughout the room.

Step 4.  Paint the door(s). The doors are last since they are the most challenging and you will most likely use different brushes and/or roller.

Painting a single room in your home is a great DIY project – a safe guess that most/all of us have taken on painting a room at one time or another. Following the 4 steps, in order, will make sure you have a successful painting project – Just like the Pros!
